Marcia Cross Involved In Car Accident

June 13, 2008

Marcia Cross hit a bump in the road yesterday.

The Desperate Housewives star was behind the wheel Wednesday afternoon when her Lexus RX collided with another car, which, judging from pictures taken at the scene, sustained a significant amount of front-end damage.

Both vehicles were towed away from the scene, with Cross’ SUV appearing to have been none too much the worse for wear. No injuries were mentioned, and no police report was filed.

“There is no report with her name in the system. And we would only have taken a report if there were injuries,” LAPD spokeswoman Julie Sohn told E! News.

The fender bender occurred around 2 p.m., according to Access Hollywood, which first reported the incident.

It’s unclear whether the 46-year-old actress was alone at the time of the crash, but it’s known that her year-old twin daughters were not along for the ride.

Glad to hear Marcia’s okay!

New Dana Delany Interview!

June 13, 2008

What did you make of the finale?
“I thought it was incredibly complicated but I loved doing it. It was fun!”

Did you know about the twists involving your character (Katherine Mayfair) all along?
“I did. I have to say Marc Cherry (executive producer) had it all mapped out from the beginning. Little details were filled in, but he pretty much knew what he was doing. I knew too and I’m terrible keeping at secrets, but I knew I’d be shot if I said anything!”

It was quite dark at times, wasn’t it?
“It was quite dark, but fun to play. People remind me of things because [I lost] track of all the elements, like that note that Dylan found. When we shot that scene it was a prop note with nothing on it, so I just made it up. I didn’t know what it said! They had to remind me later that it said her father was murdered and she was from a Romanian orphanage.”

And what did you think of the ‘five years in the future’ twist?
“I think it’s great. I understand it’s for the writers, because they get bored and need to have a reset. When I was on China Beach, we did 20 years in the future and I found it very liberating.”

What do you know of Katherine-in-five-years?
“The only thing I know about my character is that after revealing so many secrets, she’ll be more relaxed! I hope that she doesn’t lose her snarkiness, because that’s always fun to play.”

Do you think there are any more secrets to come from her?
“There’s always more secrets! How many more could there be, though?”

And will she be more friendly towards Bree? Their relationship softened a lot over the course of the season.
“I think we’ll be ‘frenemies’, as they say. We’ll be friends but it could turn at any second.”

When do you go back to filming?
“July 7th. I’m excited!”

Do you think the threatened actors’ strike will happen?
“I’m so worried about it. I hope there isn’t a strike, because the industry can’t take it. So many people lost jobs and money [in the writers' strike] – and we lost viewers. In the world we live in today, unfortunately all the producers have the power.”

Were you a fan of the show before you joined the cast?
“I’d been offered [the part of] Bree originally but turned it down, so I had to watch the show to see why it was such a huge hit.”

Why did you turn the part down?
“I had done a show called Pasadena and I thought my character in that was too similar [to Bree], and I didn’t want to repeat myself. I don’t think in terms of career, I think in terms of what challenges me, and I’d done that. But I was really impressed with what Marc Cherry did, so I watched a bit of the first season and then when he got back in touch last year, I was so grateful. I’ve turned down a lot of jobs in my life – I’m sort of known for it! – but then they never want to work with you again, so it was really nice that he came back.”

Are you an official housewife now?
“Yes!”

Does that mean your face will be popping up in the credits next season?
“I don’t know! Sure, it would be fun, but I’m okay without it.”

Are you replacing Nicollette Sheridan (Edie), or will she be back?
“She’ll be back. You can’t get rid of Edie. You need that character, she serves a function on the street. And I’d rather [Nicollette] play that than me – I don’t want to wear those tight dresses!”

A Look Back On The Desperate Housewives Season Four Ratings

June 7, 2008

Daily TV ratings reports will not be posted on Televisionista during the summer. I will however post ratings of selected summer shows and take a look back at how some of TV’s hottest shows did last season. And I begin with “Desperate Housewives.”

Following a series high of over 30 million viewers who tuned in to see the first season finale of “Desperate Housewives” in May 2005, it was all downhill for the Marc Cherry-penned dramedy (well, how could they go any further?) in seasons 2 and 3.

But this season, Dana Delany joined the cast, as did a gay couple; Lynette battled cancer; Bree faked a pregnancy, Susan gave birth to her child; and Gaby ditched her evil mayor and reunited with Carlos.

Oh yes, and there was a twister, a more compelling mystery, a bunch of great guest stars, a glimpse of Gale Harold, and a controversial 5-year leap into a troubled future.

It appears that was enough to put the buzz back into the 4-year old series which bounced back in the ratings after hitting a series low in the spring of 2007. An average of about a million pairs of eyeballs were added this year and here’s how individual episodes fared:

Sep. 30 (19.3 million)
Oct. 07 (17.8 million)
Oct. 14 (18.9 million)
Oct. 21 (18.2 million)
Oct. 28 (18.3 million)
Nov. 04 (18.6 million)
Nov. 11 (18.6 million)
Nov. 25 (18.6 million)
Dec. 02 (20.7 million)
Jan. 06 (19.8 million)
Apr. 13 (16.4 million)
Apr. 20 (15.8 million)
Apr. 27 (16.4 million)
May 04 (16.8 million)
May 11 (15.4 million)
May 18 (16.8 million)

As you can see, the show opened strong on September 30 with the 3rd highest rating of the season. The infamous tornado episode on December 2 gave the series its season high and helped break the 20 million mark. The January follow-up was the second highest rated episode of the season.

Then in April, the show returned following the conclusion of the crippling writers’ strike and the ratings took a plunge. Something very similar happened last spring, so we might want to put the blame on warmer weather and longer days.

The fact that second to last episode which aired on May 11 hit season low of 15.4 million viewers is somewhat worrisome. The 2-hour season finale shot back up, but only to 16.8 million viewers, closing the season on a par with the May 4 episode.

Thanks to Televisionista for the information!

Chris Carmack On This Sunday’s Desperate Housewives

April 10, 2008

Here’s a few stills from this coming Sunday’s episode of Desperate Housewives, which features former O.C. star Chris Carmack.

Thanks to Televisionista, we have a quick synopsis of what kind of business Carmack has on Wisteria Lane:

Carmack will play Susan Mayer’s (Teri Hatcher) relative Tim who comes over to Fairview to help Mike (James Denton) with his taxes. Susan is worried Tim, who likes his girls young, is after Dylan (Lyndsay Fonseca, “How I Met Your Mother”).

But, things may not be as they seem, as Susan’s hunky male cousin reveals more than expected. The first post-strike episode of “Desperate Housewives” is titled “Sunday” and it airs Sunday, April 13 at 9/8c on ABC.
